Reggio Calabria is located in the heart of the Mediterranean, between the sea and the mountains. To the West it overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea, to the South and East the Ionian Sea. The city extends for 23 kilometers along the eastern shores of the Strait of Messina and climbs along the slopes of the Aspromonte up to 1708 m. of Mount Basilicò. It is only 3.2 kilometers from Sicily.
It is a fertile area thanks to the mild climate and the abundance of water, in which the olive, vine and citrus crops grow, in particular the bergamot, a plant that grows exclusively in the coastal strip that goes from Reggio to Gioiosa Jonica. .
A singular and luminous city whose architectural, artistic, cultural and environmental riches make it one of the most interesting places in the South.

The Aspromonte National Park enjoys an extraordinary wealth of fauna thanks to the environmental variety of its territory. The dense vegetation and the presence of a predominantly Mediterranean climate favor the presence of many animal species that find their ideal habitat in the Aspromonte.
The Ruffo di Amendolea castle, a medieval fortress located in the town of the same name in the center of what is known as the Grecanica area of the province of Reggio Calabria, stood in a highly strategic role, as the valley of the Amendolea river was in historical times the border between Locri and Reggio.
